Here are three ways that you can modernize your grandmother's wedding dress before your big day. 

Get the dress dry cleaned

If your grandmother's dress has been in storage for quite some time, the first thing that you will need to do is take it to get a good cleaning. A dry cleaners in your town will be able to get the dress properly cleaned and ironed and make sure that it is in overall good condition. If the dress has been sitting around in the dark for a long while, a good cleaning will take out any smell or dust and restore the beauty of the dress. Make sure that you go to a dry cleaners with a fast turn around time so that you can get the dress fitted quickly. 

Add some sleeves

The trend of long sleeved wedding dresses is back. If your grandmother had a wedding dress that had short sleeves, you can add some sleeves to the dress to make it your own. Bring the dress for a fitting and ask the tailor to fit you and the dress for sleeves. Sleeves made of a light material can be sewn into the lining of the dress and then removed after your big day. This will leave the original dress intact but allow you to give the dress your own flair. 

Get a matching veil and train made

It is easy to add a train to a dress, as these can be attached via a button that is sewn on to the regular dress. Get a train made by a seamstress that is to your specifications. Be sure that the color is a direct match for the original dress so that no one is able to tell that the train is an addition. A matching veil that falls over your hair and down past your shoulders is a great way to top off a beautiful vintage gown and flatter your figure.
