3 Types Of Commercial Janitorial Cleaning Services, And What Each Entails
Commercial janitorial cleaning services make you think of the school janitor or the mall custodian. In fact, there are three different types of commercial janitorial services, although people who work for a universal service company may be employed to clean in all three different cleaning environments. If you are in need of a janitor, it helps to know what these different types of cleaning services are and what each entails so that you can specifically request the right service and right janitors for your needs.
1. Retail Custodians
Retail custodians are janitors that clean stores, malls, and other places where customers shop. If a product can be purchased from a shelf, then a retail custodian is needed to dust that shelf, sweep and mop the floors, wax the floors as needed, wipe down and disinfect handles, doors, knobs, light switches, and anything else customers and store employees touch in a day. During the day, the janitors may be around to help with general upkeep, but if the retail location is big enough, the store has its employees help with store cleanliness. Both employees and retail custodians are responsible for bathroom cleaning, too.
A special subsection of retail custodians are hotel and motel housekeepers/maids. In general, these people are hired by the hotel/motel, so owners of these establishments rarely need to look for outside services. However, if you run a hotel/motel, and you are short-staffed, you may hire retail custodians to fill in until you can hire new housekeepers.
2. Office Janitors
Office janitors empty trash cans, clean and disinfect surfaces (including tables, chairs, and desks), clean bathrooms, vacuum, sweep and mop any floors not covered in carpeting, and dust. Typically, office janitors are on the job all night after office employees have left. These janitors may clean buildings that only have one floor, or they may clean buildings with a hundred floors. It just depends on the size of the building and the tasks ordered and requested by the customers.
I3. Industrial Cleaners
Industrial cleaners are a whole other kind of cleaning service. These folks clean bits of bone and meat off of machines, remove dirt and bits of produce from machines, clean the machines that process food and other products, spray and disinfect all machine surfaces, hose down and disinfect floors, Roll trash out in dumpsters, etc. Their primary function is to make sure there is no contamination or waste left behind in or on the machines, floors, conveyor belts, tables, or anywhere else industrial waste may have accumulated. This process is done at the end of every shift, and sometimes in the middle of shifts, too.
